A Birthday Party

Filed under: Travel Journal — nomdeplumage @ 8:53 pm

My cousin Zoran has invited us all this evening to his daughter Milica’s fourth birthday party. Being somewhat unprepared, I needed to make a quick dash to the shops to buy a gift. Finding a gift for someone that you do not know their likes or dislikes, is a challenge, but even harder still when you have Kathy and Dura fighting over what to buy their grand daughter. In the end, they bought her a very girlie pink bike and I added the finishing touches with a basket and horn. With the gift’s bought, we made our way home to wash and change and make our way to the party.
The party was in full swing by the time we arrived. It was only a small party consisting of a few family members from both sides. I got the chance to meet Zoran’s in-laws which I have heard so much about. They could not speak English very well, so our conversation was very limited.

A small marque was set up in the back yard, with a above ground swimming pool tempting us all as we sat and sweated in the humidity. Not being able to wrap out gift, we had to give it ti Millie upon arrival. It was a massive hit with the birthday girl, but not so with them Mum. You see, we did not buy what she wanted us to buy, so therefore we received a few stares that were not wholly friendly. Oh well! My horn was a special treat for the kids, but not so with their Dad, for the sound of that blaring, most irritating noise that sounded quite regularly was a little unnerving. I believe it was confiscated after I left? Sorry!

The food was amazing! Zoran knows how to deliver a mouth watering spread. Their was succulent beef strips marinated and mouth watering, chicken skewers, sticky BBQ spare ribs (the highlight), tomato and feta cheese salad, cabbage salad and a bean salad. The birthday cake was made by the mother-in-law and it was delicious. After dinner, the adults gossiped and I became the exclusive playmate to my young cousins. What a delight to become so popular and so quickly. Needless to say, I tooted that horn a few times, just to piss the parents off a little. You see, I leave and they are left with the aftermath. Oh what delights!
